Straightening Out Nonfilers Wanting to File
Contrary to popular belief, there is a whole host of people out there that don’t need to file their tax returns each year. The widespread perception is that everyone, no matter how little money you earned, needs to file a tax return for no other reason than to be accountable. The ligitimacy is that millions of individuals every year do not file, but with the 2008 economic stimulus checks going out to everyone, many nonfilers wanting to file have been wondering how they can get their share of this effort.
Who is a nonfiler
First of all, let’s define closely what a nonfiler is. According to the IRS, a person will have to earn up to $3,000 from any number of sources to be required to fill out a yearly tax reappear. This is also the amount you will have obligztory to make to be appropriate for the stimulus check. The $3,000 number also applies to families, so if you and your spouse earned more than $3,000 as a family, then you will should to file a tax revisit. The IRS has set up a Free File arrangement to help out those nonfilers wanting to file.
How do you file?
The IRS has set up what they call a Free File method. The structure is open and available to over 97 million Americans who made less than $54,000 last year. This arrangement is here to help individuals who don’t make very much money file for free in its place of paying companies like H&R Block to file for them or so they don’t have to buy expensive online filing software. There are a whole host of companies that will perform your Free File for you. All you should to do is select one and get started. If you know of any other nonfilers wanting to file, simply direct them to the Free File website.
Why?
Of course, the major reason why a nonfiler would want to file this year is to take advantage of the stimulus check. The Obama Administration put forth this check structure to help stimulate the economy. Each person earning over $3,000 is adequate to get a $300 check from the government and families can receive up to $600. At this point, it is unknown if these checks worked out. at present, the stock market is having a record month, but job creation is slow. These checks are still presented from the government, even if you are filing long past the deadline.
Final Tips
This past year, tens of thousands of nonfilers filled out tax returns for the very first time. Millions of stimulus checks were sent out and, although it is unknown if the money was saved or spent, there is a strong look forward to that such a structure will occur again in 2010. If it does, you can look forward to the Free File scheme to be widely used once again. If you are a nonfiler and you want to file, there are free and easy-to-use ways to get your taxes done fast, thanks to the good people at the IRS.
