2009 Cotton Bowl Tickets- A Farewell to the Cotton Bowl Stadium

After 73 years, the 2009 Cotton Bowl will say goodbye to Fair Park/Cotton Bowl Stadium. 2009 Cotton Bowl tickets are going fast in response to the final farewell of this historical stadium and the battle that will ensue between the Ole Miss Rebels and the Texas Tech Red Raiders.

A college bowl game that was initially called "Sanford's Folly" because of the difficulties finding teams to play in it and a solid financial footing, the ATT Cotton Bowl Classic eventually became a staple as one of the premiere football bowls, providing a perfect setting for some of the great college games over eight decades. The 2009 Cotton Bowl will mark the end of an era in Dallas Texas Football history when Ole Miss plays Texas Tech in a Big 12 versus SEC match-up that is sure to please.

The 8-4 Ole Miss Rebels are making their 32nd college bowl appearance that dates all the way back to a 1936 game against Catholic University in the Orange bowl. They have an overall record of 19 wins and 12 losses. The 2009 Cotton Bowl will be their 4th bowl trip to Dallas. They last played here in 2005 when they narrowly defeated Oklahoma State by a score of 31 to 28. Previous appearances include a 12 to 7 loss to the Texas Longhorns in 1962 and a 14 to 13 win over Texas Christian University in their first Cotton bowl appearance back in 1956.

The Red Raiders of Texas Tech will also be making their 32nd college bowl appearance. Their overall bowl game record of 10 wins 20 losses and 1 tie differs from that of their opponent. But at 11-1 this season they shared a piece of the Big 12 Southern division title and are nationally ranked. The 2009 Cotton Bowl will be the Red Raiders' 4th time playing in Dallas as well. They have yet to win a Cotton bowl game as of yet, losing to St. Mary's in 1938, the University of Southern California in 1994 and Alabama's Crimson Tide.

A very special feeling surrounds this year's game as they will say goodbye to the stadium that has been thier only home for 73 years. Very few athletic events in America, college or professional, have more tradition than that of the 2009 Cotton Bowl Classic. Cotton Bowl Stadium has been the backdrop to many of college football's greatest moments, and the memories will forever be set in our minds. In 2010, a new era begins as the game will move to the new Dallas Cowboys Stadium in Arlington.
